When it rains...it pours! I know that is an old saying, but here in San Miguel it is the truth! The rainy season lasts from June until September, with rains about three to four times per week, with heavy, very heavy rain. This last week it rained almost every day with little or no sunshine. We felt like we were in Ohio, in the winter, except it wasn't cold. If you know anything about us, we love the sunshine! It was a hard week!! But, God is good and as I'm writing this, He is sending the sunshine! Last week was uncommon having rain all day, everyday. We usually have sunshine throughout the day and the rains come from about 2:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon. Evenings vary here, but are usually pleasant, with some evening rain.
As you can see in the photos above the streets flood very quickly and within minutes your car tires can be in high water. What is very difficult here in San Miguel are the narrow roads and heavy traffic. When one of these heavy storms hit, it is better not to be on the roads...it's chaos! Every house in San Miguel is built with this unique little spouting system. Most of the roofs are flat, so there are drains that lead to the spout and out comes the water. We have been trying to figure out the names of these little spouts, but haven't been able too. As you can see alot of water flows through these spouts in a heavy rainstorm. As we endure the rainy season, we thank God for so many things. We appreciate the sunny days, and are thankful for the rains that nourish the ground. Our God is so amazing and wonderful. When He sends us the robin egg skies, we are thankful and we give Him the praise and glory for all of His blessings.
