On May 19th, FINO had a library inauguration at the La Palma after school program. The children put on a small program, and the women from the community provided food for everyone that attended. This program has come a long way from the very start of it several months ago. Antioch was part of the cleaning and painting process, along with buying some books for the library months ago. The children painted a mural on the walls and outside the building. They continue to improve the building. I know that this program could use books (Mainly in Spanish) so that the children can spend their time reading and furthering their education. This is an awesome program that helps rural children. If you can help, please visit their site at:http://www.finomex.org and find some ways that you could help change a child’s life.
The children of the La Palma village put on a small program for us. They lit some candles, and sang along to a song, "We are the world, We are the children" an 8o's song. They did such a great job singing this song is English. Then, each of the introduced themselves, and told us what they like to do for activities; some even spoke in English. Jamie Harknett (right of picture) taught the children over the last few months at La Palma. He is also the program director for FINO. Jamie will be leaving Mexico around June 9th, and will be heading back to Canada. He has done a wonderful job with FINO and the kids.
The kids swaying back and forth to the song.
Some of the Mother's serving the food for us.
